NINA STEFANAC

 Clinical Psychologist and
Clinical Supervisor

I am an experienced clinical psychologist with a compassionate and thoughtful approach to therapy. My clients are adults who see me for a range of mental health, life adjustment, and relational concerns. I hold a particular interest in using Schema Therapy and EMDR to help people make sense of long-standing patterns, process difficult experiences, and create meaningful change.

With ten years’ experience across oncology, rehabilitation, and perinatal mental health settings, I’ve also helped people adjust to major life transitions and health challenges. This has included navigating the emotional and relationship impacts of living with chronic or life-limiting illness, with a special interest in cancer. Through these experiences, I have a developed a deep understanding of the complex mix of emotions that can arise - related to uncertainty, loss, existential distress, changes in body image and relationships, and shifts in identity. I offer a steady, non-judgemental space to make sense of these challenges, and rebuild a sense of purpose and wellbeing.

In addition to individual therapy, I work with couples who are feeling stuck, disconnected, or caught in recurring patterns of conflict. My approach to couples therapy is experiential, and grounded in attachment theory, developmental neuroscience, and arousal regulation (The Psychobiological Approach to Couple Therapy® - The PACT Institute, 2024). I guide couples to better understand and respond to each other's emotional needs, strengthen communication, and rebuild trust and connection.

My style is warm, respectful and collaborative. My priority is to meet you where you’re at, hear and understand your emotional needs, and provide the support and care you deserve. I am trained in a range of evidence-based therapies, including Schema therapy, EMDR (Advanced-level), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Cognitive Processing Therapy, and Dialectical Behavioural Therapy.

Whether you are seeking support for a specific mental health or life challenge, or looking to better understand yourself and your relationships, I provide therapy that is grounded, reflective, and genuinely supportive.

Please note: I do not provide medio-legal assessment or reports. There are some conditions I don’t work with: eating disorders, substance abuse, psychosis, when there is current/ongoing domestic or family violence, or legal matters before a court.
